South Africa’s Wayne Parnell played one of his best knocks ever on the 12th day of the Vitality T20 Blast. Quite single-handedly, he bowed his team Worcestershire out of trouble and won the game for them. The pressure never seemed to have got the better of him and he did a wonderful job.
In the other game that was played on the day, D’Arcy Short continued with his rich vein of form. Not only did he excel with the bat but also was fabulous with the ball. His heroics helped Durham win the game against Leicestershire by 8 wickets.
Here is how things progressed on the day
Worcestershire vs Derbyshire – North Group
After they were put in to bat first, Worcestershire lost their captain Billy Godleman for a golden duck. Though, Luis Reece and Wayne Madsen came to the rescue and scored 29 and 28 runs respectively. Leus du Plooy later anchored the innings and remained unbeaten on 52 from 48 balls while Darren Stevens scored 26 from 18. The track was a good one and it wasn’t really a tough task for Worcestershire to chase the target down.
However, they lost both their openers and Callum Ferguson early and were reduced to 35/3. At this stage, Wayne Parnell built up a good partnership with Ben Cox who scored 20. Then, Ross Whiteley played well and scored 20. The team was at a good stage at 142/4 in 16 overs. However, by the end of the 18th over, they were brought down to 149/8. Yet, Parnell maintained his composure, remained unbeaten on 81 off 46 balls and won his team the match.
DERBY: 156/4 in 20 overs (Leus du Plooy 52*, Luis Reece 29, Brett D’Oliveira 2/25)
WORCS: 159/8 in 19 overs (Wayne Parnell 81*, Ross Whiteley 20, Ravi Rampaul 2/17)
Durham vs Leicestershire – North Group
Skipper Colin Ackermann was the lone warrior with the bat in this innings. He scored 52 off 41 balls while Harry Swindells (29 off 20 balls) and M Cosgrove (18 off 21 balls) made handy contributions. This helped the team get to a score of 142/7 in 20 overs which was surely under-par.
With the bat, the Durham openers blew this target away all by themselves. D’Arcy Short raced his way to 70 from 36 balls while Graham Clark mustered 59 from 38. This helped the team get to the target with 32 balls and 8 wickets to spare and win this game of the T20 Blast. Callum Parkinson picked up two wickets for Leicestershire.
LEIC: 142/7 in 20 overs (Colin Ackermann 52, Harry Swindells 29, D’Arcy Short 2/23)
DUR: 143/2 in 14.4 overs (D’Arcy Short 70, Graham Clark 59*, Callum Parkinson 2/36)
