The high-scoring pitch of Sharjah in UAE has invited a lot of debate in the cricket world. People have been saying that the field favours the batsmen in all the ways, and bowlers have been struggling a lot at the venue.
In the same context, Indian commentator Sanjay Manjrekar suggested some new rules in T20 cricket, which are being played at Sharjah, a few days back. However, in the latest turn of events, former legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar believes that there is no need to tinker with the rules of the T20 format.
The games in Dubai and Abu Dhabi have seen a fine game with respect to batters and bowlers as grounds there don’t favour any one section of the game. In the same light, Gavaskar says that the T20 game is going in a fine rhythm, and disturbing its rules would not be suitable.
However, he stated that a few changes can be considered. It included allowing bowlers two bouncers per over or extending the boundary size. If the bowler is having a great day, he can also be handed an extra over. “The T20 game is doing very well, and there’s no need to tinker with it.”
Give a fast bowler two bouncers per over: Sunil Gavaskar
“It is loaded heavily in favour of the batsmen for sure. So, give a fast bowler two bouncers per over, and yes, the boundaries can be easily longer if the ground authorities want it. Also, look at giving an extra over to the bowler who takes a wicket in his first three overs. But seriously, there’s no need to bring any changes at all,” said Gavaskar as quoted The Times of India.
The former Indian captain was in recent news when he stated why a bowler in being criticized for Mankading? It is his very much right to run out the batsmen if he is backing up too much. He supported his statements by saying, even the batsmen don’t give any warning to bowlers before hitting a six.
Then why a bowler is expected to do the same. ‘Mankading’ created a great uproar in the cricket world last year when Ravi Ashwin mankaded Jos Buttler from Rajasthan Royals in IPL.
