Team India scripted a historic victory in the four-match Border Gavaskar Trophy against Australia by 2-1. It was a memorable win for India considering they were without the services for their skipper Virat Kohli and had lost their key players to injuries including Mohammed Shami, KL Rahul, Ishant Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Umesh Yadav, and Hanuma Vihari to injuries during the course of the Test series.
The visiting team had lost the first game by registering their lowest ever Test total at Adelaide Oval. However, the team scripted one of the greatest comebacks in the second match at Melbourne Cricket Ground by winning the game by 8 wickets followed by a draw at Sydney Cricket Ground and a win at The Gabba in Brisbane to retain the prestigious Border Gavaskar Trophy.
India received a lot of appreciation and applause from all over the world for their stunning performance in Australia. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also acknowledged the efforts made by the Indian team and lauded them for their grit and determination.
“This month, we got good news from the cricket pitch. After initial hiccups, the Indian team bounced back gloriously and won the series in Australia. Our team’s hard work and teamwork was inspiring,” PM Modi said during Mann Ki Baat on Sunday.
