Michael Hussey, the former Australian cricketer, has lauded Babar Azam for his calm and composed approach while batting. The Pakistan batting has been shoddy across formats, but Babar has shown a great amount of consistency, scoring runs while facing the best of bowling attacks. The Young Turk was the national team’s standout batsmen in the two-match Test series versus Australia.
He was Pakistan’s leading run-scorer of the series with 210 runs at an average of 52.50. He also got his second Test century at The Gabba in Brisbane where Pakistan lost by an innings and five runs. Hussey said that Babar had a clear game-plan and was a delight to watch. As per Mr. Cricket, as Hussey is popularly known, the Australian fans loved watching Babar wield the willow.
Hussey delighted to watch Babar Azam bat
“Babar Azam has looked superb, he’s looked in control, calm and clear with his game-plan. He’s played really well and he’s been great to watch. The Aussie fans have thoroughly enjoyed watching him bat and it was great to see him get a 100 at the Gabba,” the 44-year-old Hussey was quoted as saying in Pak Passion.
Babar carried his form to the Day-Night Test at the Adelaide Oval as well. In the first innings, he got a magnificent 97, before falling prey to speedster Mitchell Starc against the run of play. Pakistan ended up losing the pink-ball Test by an innings and 48 runs, and Babar’s efforts with the bat went in vain. He also got minimum support from the rest of the batting lineup that looked hapless.
Apart from Babar, Yasir Shah, whose prime role is bowling, churned out a century in the first innings of the Adelaide Test. Mohammad Rizwan and Shan Masood got starts, but both couldn’t make big enough impacts. The form of Test skipper Azhar Ali also turned out to be a massive concern.
The veteran could manage 62 runs in four innings at a rather dismal average of 15.50. Their bowling also failed miserably. Overall the visiting team could pick up 13 wickets in the series, which was less than Starc’s tally of 14 wickets. Shah, their most experienced bowlers, also went for plenty.
