India is engrossed in their 73rd Independence Day celebrations. Over the last year or so, the nation has been a witness to quite a few events, some not so pleasant and many to be proud of. The floods in Maharashtra and Assam recently grabbed the limelight. The natural calamity has caused a lot of damage and prayers have flowed in for the victims from every nook and corner of the country.
Hima Das made India proud by winning Gold Medals in heaps in the field of athletics. Recently, the Article 370, which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, was abolished. The state was divided into union territories of J&K and Ladakh. The decision was greeted with glee by Indian people.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma, the Indian batsman, wished everyone on India’s day of Independence. The opening batsman felt that the nation has gone through a lot of turmoil. He reckons that Mother Nature has been rough, but also was happy with the way the country has weathered the storms.
The Indian batsman took to Twitter and wrote, “Happy Independence Day to my fellow Indians. Our nation has been through a lot this year, Mother Nature has been rough on us but the way we stood up & protected our wildlife is inspiring. Let’s continue to love & protect our animals & marine life. The circle of life is fragile,”

Rohit Sharma performing in the Caribbean Islands
Rohit is currently in the West Indies where he played the three-match ODI series. He could only score 28 runs in both the games. Though he couldn’t make an impact in the 50-overs fixtures, he was at his best in the T20I series. In the second game at Lauderhill, Florida, Rohit scored a sparkling 67.
Prior to that, he had a tremendous World Cup where he racked up as many as five centuries. The number of tons was the highest by any batsman in a single edition of the mega event. Though he has weaved his magic in limited-overs cricket, he is yet to cement his position in the Test team. However, he is in the squad for the longer format in the tour of the Caribbean and would be keen to put up some decent shows. His last Test was versus Australia last year.
