Cricket fans all around the world have marked their calendars with India and New Zealand locking horns in the ICC World Test Championship final next month. The Ageas Bowl in Southampton will host the iconic clash, which gets underway on June 18. With the match being the ultimate showdown of Test cricket, many players and experts presented their opinion on how the game would unfold. Now, Pat Cummins has also joined the bandwagon.
On Wednesday, the Australian speedster took to his YouTube channel and shared a video of his Question and Answer (Q&A) session with the fans. One fan asked the top-ranked Test bowler to opine on the WTC final and which team could lift the elusive title. In reply, Cummins said that it would be a close contest but the English conditions would suit New Zealand more.
Conditions would suit New Zealand more: Pat Cummins
“It will be a good match. There has been a lot of rain in England and from the conditions point of view, it is closer to New Zealand’s. It is going to be interesting as both teams haven’t played a Test match since a couple of months. It is a one-off so anything can happen. But the conditions would suit New Zealand more than India,” said the 28-year-old.
Notably, Kane Williamson’s men will have some more advantages heading to the summit clash. They’ll meet hosts England in two Test matches prior to the WTC final and have a great chance to adapt to the conditions and also identify their best combination. On the contrary, Team India will fly to England on June 2 and is set to undergo a 14-day quarantine period upon their arrival. Hence, they won’t have much time to get in the groove.
Speaking of Pat Cummins, the Aussie pace spearhead was last seen in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, which has been postponed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 virus. The right-arm pacer had an impressive campaign before the season suspension as he was Kolkata Knight Rider’s (KKR) leading wicket-taker with nine wickets in seven games.
