MS Dhoni has been trending on social media on Friday, unfortuntely not for good reasons. Probably, home quarantine is getting to the social media gimmicks as they are trolling him for donating only Rs 1 lakh for the needy amid the Coronavirus pandemic. For the uninitiated, Dhoni donated the amount for the daily wage workers (in Pune) who are affected the most due to the lockdown in India.
He donated Rs 1 lakh to the crowd funding website Ketto to the Mukul Madhav Foundation, public charitable trust in Pune. The goal of the foundation was to collect Rs 12.50 lakhs through the fundraiser in order to help the daily wage workers. And the former India skipper was the top donor in the list even as they had collected more than Rs 12 lakh on Friday.
Maharashtra is one of the worst-affected states by Coronavirus with more than 120 positive cases. The foundation will make sure the money is used to provide the essential grocery to the families of the daily wage workers during the lockdown period.
MS Dhoni just added the amount NGO needed
While a celebrity like MS Dhoni supporting a noble cause was certainly a good step. However, the legendary cricketer is being trolled for donating only Rs 1 lakh when his net worth is almost Rs 800 crore. Meanwhile, India Today editor Vikrant Gupta has revealed the exact reason for MS Dhoni donating Rs 1 lakh for the noble cause.
While he lashed out at all the trolls first and then cleared that the NGO needed only that much money to reach their goal. “Such a shame people are trolling @msdhoni for the 1 lakh donation to an NGO. The NGO wanted to raise 12.50 lakh and MSD added the amount they needed. He isn’t the kind of person who would tom-tom about such things. For all you know he might hv donated more somewhere else already,” his tweet read.
