Dale Steyn, the South African fast bowler, has gone through some extremely scary moments in the last few days. The 36-year-old reckons that the lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic has made people push the panic button. He feels that desperation has crept in after three attempted break-ins at his residence amidst the third lockdown in the African nation.
On one occasion, his friend’s car was decimated and once, his mother, staying at home alone, was petrified. The Phalaborwa-born has urged people to look after their family in the situation of crisis. Steyn, who has played 93 Tests for the Proteas, hoped for his message to help people out.
He took to Twitter and wrote, “3 attempted break ins since Friday at my house. Yesterday they destroyed my friends car and tonight scared the hell outa my mom who was alone at home. Rona definitely pushing people into desperation and I realize this tweet helps fuck all. Stay safe people.”

Earlier, during a conversation with former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen, Steyn said how the people have to focus on their own well-being. “It is at test for us, the time when people have to take care for each other but they are at the beaches, I mean what are they doing, there must be a reason why that is happening,” Steyn was quoted as saying during the chat.
In the meantime, if reports are to be believed, the number of deaths has gone up since the beginning of lockdown 3 in South Africa. Lifting the ban on alcohol is being deemed as a possible reason for the deaths caused by murder.
“Until Monday the 1st of June which is not an entirely dangerous day, for the first time since the lockdown, we got reports of 40 people killed. The next day there were 51 [murders] and there were 69 this past Sunday,” Bheki Cele, a police minister, said.
Thus far, South Africa has been a witness to over 55,420 positive coronavirus cases with around 1,210 people losing their lives. Over 31,500 persons have recovered though. Globally, the cases stands at around 7.04 million with the COVID-19 virus taking the lives of nearly 4,04,000.
