The ICC Under-19 World Cup is staged to be played at the West Indies next January. Ahead of the marquee event, Australian players prepping up to provide all the needed practice and guidance to the young and raw talents of the nation. Their players are all set to take part in the Northern Territory’s Cricket 365 program with the aim to gear themselves for the World Cup. Meanwhile, Australian Test captain Tim Paine is set to share his insights by coaching the side.
Tim Paine has recently undertaken high-performance (level-three) coaching credentials with probably a view of serving as a coach after his playing career. He will now be a part of the coaching panel that will supervise a Cricket Australia XI in three one-day games against a representative NT outfit in Darwin next month.
Graham Manou, Cricket Australia’s National Talent and Pathways Manager spoke about Paine taking up this task and asserted that it would assist him to figure out more about the job. “He’s undertaken his level-three, or high-performance coach accreditation so he’s starting that process. It gives him a chance to see what’s happening and learn a little bit from some of the other coaches who will be involved in Darwin.” Manou told cricket.com.au.
‘We know he’s got a keen interest in talent identification’ – Graham Manou on Tim Paine
The participation of Paine in this program pins the hopes of him planning to pave a path towards coaching once he bids goodbye to the game. Paine is currently working with the development groups and will add value to their learnings as the youngsters will get the opportunity to understand and instill the values that the national team demands.
“We know he’s got a keen interest in talent identification and talent management. And it also means he can continue to impart some of those behaviours and values the Australian team are wanting, from not only their current players but future players as well.” Manou added.
Tim Paine is expected to join the Cricket Australia XI for the last two games of the three-match series that kick starts from Sunday. The National Performance Coach Troy Cooley will lead the CA XI whereas the veteran mentor Greg Shipperd will guide the NT Strike team.
