Heroism is essential to sport and cricket is no exception. Cricket is a great a gentleman’s game and is shrouded in shame at quite a few occasions. Infection with virus-like betting and match-fixing have seeped into crickets’ bloodstream to the point where the essence of cricket has been shattering with its advent. Match-fixing is not a new phenomenon, and now TNPL has come into the scanner with chances of alleged corruption.
Cricket is being involved in different big T20 leagues that have been explored after the advent of T20, and TNPL is also one of those. It is known as Tamil Nadu Premier League that is continuing is in its 3rd successive season. With big players like Ravichandran Ashwin, Murali Vijay and Dinesh Karthik have taken it to another level.
There were some players who informed BCCI about the concerned matter after which, the BCCI Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU ) has initiated an inquiry, which has found rampant corruption in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) according to Indian Express.
According to the players, they were contacted by the unknown person with Whatsapp messages. Although there are chances of involvement of the players or the people from the team management. It is expected that bookies and match-fixers, after taking control of a franchise through an illegal deal with the team owner, are running “the team in such a way that they make windfall gain in betting”
BCCI ACU chief Ajeet Singh confirmed on Monday about the recent developments of fixing in TNPL and said as quoted by TOI, “Yes some of the players have approached us and based on their statements, we have launched an investigation. Anti Corruption Unit has also recorded the statements on how and when they have received the messages from the unknown person”. It is also being said by the ACU sources that one of the bookies confided to them that the coach was seen giving instructions to players on how many runs to score. With the coach now moving to a new team.
An Eight-team TNPL has its nerve center at the iconic Chepauk Stadium which was initially inaugurated by the former Indian skipper and Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni. Chepauk Super Chillies currently holds the trophy of TNPL.
