Just when the Women’s T20 Challenge started to gain momentum, the players started to find some form, the time for the final, titular clash, which will pit the two-time champions Supernovas against the Trailblazers, has arrived. In what would be a repeat clash of the league-stage game, the former will be eyeing a hat-trick of triumphs, whereas the latter would hope to topple them and give the tournament a new champion.
The two teams faced off each other in an enthralling contest on Saturday where the Harmanpreet Kaur-led Supernovas trounced Smriti Mandhana’s Trailblazers in a last-ball thriller by two runs to stamp their berth for the finals on the basis of a superior Net Run Rate than the third participant of the league: Velocity. For the defending champs, opener Chamari Atapattu was in blistering form. On the back of her belligerent 48-ball 67, the Supernovas powered themselves to a competitive total of 146 for 6.
Coming to chase, the Trailblazers got off to a solid start as opener Deandra Dottin, who has been among runs, played a brisk knock, whereas skipper Smriti Mandhana anchored well. Deepti Sharma (43 from 40) and Harleen Deol (27 from 15) pushed their teams towards victory, though the duo of Radha Yadav and Shakera Selman kept things tight with the ball and bagged a couple of wickets each to increase the problems of their opponents, even as the former managed to defend nine runs in the last over.
With the title at stake, both the teams would want to put up their best show as they meet on Monday at the Sharjah International Cricket Stadium.
Pitch and conditions
The track will continue to assist the spinners heavily. With the possibility of dew in the second innings, the toss will be significant, and the captains will be keen to chase. Given the slowness of the track, one cannot expect a very high-scoring encounter, despite the small ground dimensions.
Playing Combinations for TRA vs SUP
The West Indian all-rounder Deandra Dottin has made a valuable contribution with the bat in both the games. Skipper Mandhana, who has scored 39 runs in two games, has had a cold tournament and will be wanting to make it count in the big match. Furthermore, Harleen Deol and Deepti Sharma would be keen to emulate their performance from the last game. Trailblazers have the services of the excellent spinner Sophie Ecclestone and Rajeshwari Gayakwad, alongside the veteran Indian pacer Jhulan Goswami.

The opener Chamari Athapaththu, who has scored 111 runs in two games, is the leading run-scorer of the event, and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (62 runs) has been in decent nick too. Priya Punia played a good hand for 30 runs, although she was not able to strike as freely as she would have liked. In the bowling unit, Ayabonga Khaka and Shakera Selman have performed well in both the games, whereas Radha Yadav must be high on confidence after winning the last game for her team out of an improbable situation.
