Brisbane Heat didn’t get off to the best possible start to 2020 as they lost the first game of the year to Perth Scorchers. Also, after the previous match, Chris Lynn felt sorry for the woeful form of the team in the ongoing tournament. However, today they came with some brilliant performances against Hobart Hurricanes at the Bellerive Oval. Lynn and Co. successfully managed to pull off a convincing win against the hosts by 31 runs.
Earlier, Hurricanes won the toss and elected to bowl. They got off to a great start as fast bowler Riley Meredith dismissed Heat’s in-form opener Tom Banton in the second over of the innings. The right-handed batsman tried to go big but failed to connect the ball well with the bat and was caught by Nathan Ellis. It looked like the visitors didn’t learn from the mistakes that they committed in the previous games but that was not the case.
‘Lynnsanity’ lights up Bellerive Oval
After suffering an early blow, Chris Lynn (88* runs off 55 balls) and Max Bryant ( 65 runs off 36 balls) showed their aggressive approach and stitched a brilliant partnership of 95 runs. The swashbuckling knocks from the duo helped Brisbane Heat in posting a mammoth total of 212 runs at a loss of three wickets in stipulated 20 overs.
Lynn once again dominated the bowlers and proved why he is one of the most destructive T20 batsmen across the globe. He made the mockery of the Hurricanes’ bowlers during his unbeaten innings during which he smashed three sixes and 11 fours.
Coming onto the chase, Hurricanes got off to a good start as their openers D’arcy Short and Caleb Jewell stitched an opening stand of 46 runs. Mark Steketee, the right-handed fast bowler, helped Brisbane Heat in getting their first breakthrough as he dismissed settled Jewell. After the first dismissal, the host’s skipper Ben McDermott, who came out to bat on number three, also got a good start as he smashed 23 runs off 18 balls with two sixes and one boundary.
But, he failed to convert it into a good knock with the bat and was sent back to the pavilion by visitors’ fast bowler Ben Cutting. The same story continued with other Hurricanes batsmen, who failed to convert good starts into a big knock and that turned out to be the main reason behind them losing the match by 31 runs. For Heat, Jack Prestwidge emerged good bowling figures of 2/16 in his two overs and Chris Lynn was awarded Man of The Match for his magical knock.

Thinking they could run a 32 off the last ball with a runner!!
Or the runner wanted some TV time? 😂
— Ian BrownⓂ️ (@ICB_64) January 3, 2020
Is that the most pointless use of a runner ever?? 😂😂 #BBL09

Faulkner coming out to bat with a calf injury needing 32 to win off the final ball is the dumbest decision he’s made since he decided to drive pissed #BBL09

The Heat end up winning that rather easily on the back of Lynn/Bryant/Cutting. Canes line-up disappointing #BBL09
