It was another poor day at the office for Zimbabwe as Bangladesh once again outplayed them in the first T20I. The hosts piled up a huge score and Zimbabwe never really looked in the chase. The Mahmudullah-led side has taken an unbeatable lead in this series but will be eyeing another clean sweep.
Bangladesh’s top-order fires them to 200
The Bangladesh openers tormented Zimbabwe in the ODI series with both Tamim Iqbal and Liton Das smoking two centuries each. The duo continued their form as they put on a fine 92-run stand in 10.2 overs to give Bangladesh a rocking start. Iqbal scored 41 while Das completed his fifty and made 59 which included five fours and three sixes.
The opening duo were dismissed in the span of 15 balls and just when it looked like Zimbabwe were clawing their way back into this game, Soumya Sarkar’s blitz in the second half of the innings shut the door on them. The left-hander who walked out to bat at No. 3 smashed a stunning 32-ball 62 which comprised of four fours and five sixes. His assault along with a couple of quick cameos from Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah propelled the hosts to 200/3 in their 20 overs.
Zimbabwe crumble in the chase
Chasing about 10 runs an over, Zimbabwe needed a strong start. However, that didn’t happen as they were three down in the powerplay and that killed the contest. They never looked in the game especially after they lost those early wickets. Senior batters like Brendan Taylor and Craig Ervine failed to stand up while skipper Sean Williams tried to bail the team out but he had a mountain to climb and fell for a score of 20.
Hence, a 28 from Tinashe Kamunhukamwe at the top of the order and a decent contribution from Richmond Mutumbami pushed Zimbabwe’s score. In fact, they huffed and puffed their way to 152. Aminul Islam was the best bowler for Bangladesh as he picked up 3/34. Mustafizur Rahman looked in great rhythm as well as he took 3/32 in his three overs. The other bowlers chipped in nicely to help Bangladesh take a 1-0 lead in this two-match series.
