Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been out of the game for some time now, as he reaches towards the fag end of his career. But the legend returned to practice earlier keeping in mind the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) that is scheduled to start later this month. He reached Chennai earlier today to begin his preparation for the tournament.

The three times IPL-winning skipper will look forward to having a good season in this year’s edition to book a place in the national team for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Dhoni has not been in action for India since the semi-final of the defeat to New Zealand in the World Cup last year. He took the time off and served the Indian Army for a limited period amidst other things. Many speculated about his possible retirement from the game. But as things stand, he is set to return to action in the cash-rich league.

His return is of particular significance for the Indian fans too, particularly keeping in mind the upcoming T20 World Cup later this year. The Indian team struggled to replace him behind the stumps. With his experience and his proven match-winning qualities, they can benefit a lot. But to challenge for a spot in the national team, his performances in the IPL will be vital.

MS Dhoni has been instrumental in CSK’s success

The most successful IPL skipper (along with Rohit Sharma), was expectedly received with a grand welcome by the Chennai Super Kings fans. The 38-year-old has been instrumental in the Chennai based franchise’s success over the years, as he captained them to three IPL trophies in the past. So, there is little doubt about why the fans love the man so much at the Sothern part of the country all the more.

Chennai Super Kings released a video on their social media where the former Indian captain was seen coming out of the airport and upon reaching the hotel, he was greeted with flowers by the officials. The caption read, “Every goose shall bump with First Day First Show feels! Just #StartTheWhistles! #HomeSweetDen”.

Dhoni then went around to meet other officials and checked out the facilities. The fans of the franchise took to Twitter to show their happiness and excitement upon the arrival of their ‘Thalaiva’.

One fan posted a picture of him film star Vijay and expressed his eagerness to see the 38-year-old back on the field. He wrote– “Can’t wait to see him back in the field.” Another one posted a picture of him beside Rajnikanth. Well, MS Dhoni may not be a film star but his craze at the metro city surely matches with the stars of the film industry.
