The first semi-final between India and New Zealand resumed on Wednesday. The Kiwis could only reach 239 runs adding 28 runs in their last 23 balls and many felt that India will easily gun down the target. But that wasn’t to be as New Zealand ran through their top-order courtesy Matt Henry and Trent Boult. India were tottering at 24/4 after the first 10 overs and many felt MS Dhoni will come out to bat at six.
However, Hardik Pandya walked out to everyone’s surprise and the social media was filled with questions asking about the veteran. Soon the cameras turned towards India’s dressing room where the man of the moment was getting ready to bat and strangely, was seen eating the edge of his bat. Dhoni was doing it for quite a long period of time which led to several hilarious speculations from the social media gimmicks.
A lot of memes are going around on Twitter at the moment and amidst the tense situation at the Old Trafford, some of the fans are enjoying their time. No wonder MS Dhoni will be key to India’s chase which is looking extremely steep now.
A horror start for India
As far as the match is concerned, India were expected to canter towards the victory in the semi-final against New Zealand. But Trent Boult and Matt Henry used the new ball to the perfection to stun everyone in the middle. While Rohit Sharma, India’s hero, got out for just 1 run, Virat Kohli was pinned in front of the stumps by Trent Boult with a vicious inswinger. KL Rahul woes against the moving ball continued and Dinesh Karthik had to go back thanks to a sensational catch from James Neesham.
Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant are currently rebuilding the innings and the hopes are pinned on the duo at the moment to take India to the final. Meanwhile, social media is excited to know what MS Dhoni was doing with his bat.
