The second game of the day was pretty similar to the first one. It was once again a contest between a top team and a team looming at the bottom of the table. The Galle Gladiators badly needed a win while the Dambulla Viiking were moving strongly. The latter won the toss and opted to bowl first.
The Gladiators got off to a flying start as they scored 73 runs in the powerplay. Danushka Gunathilaka and Bhanuka Rajapaksa were taking the bowlers apart. The latter was dismissed in the eighth over after scoring a quick 18-ball 31. What followed was a mini-collapse for the side. Azam Khan was dismissed for a golden duck while Gunathilaka lost his wicket soon after.
However, his 31-ball 46 had put the team in a good position to consolidate for a few overs. It was now up to the finishers to take their side to a safe total. Sadly, this did not happen. Apart from Shehan Jayasuriya’s 39 and Dhananjaya Lakshan’s 23, there was no significant contribution from the lower order.
They reached the total of 168 at the end of their 20 overs. Considering the start they had got, this was definitely a below-par score. Talking about the bowling, Ramesh Mendis was the pick of the bowlers as he secured two wickets conceding only 28 runs in his four overs.
Samiullah Shinwari plays a brilliant knock to take his team home
Chasing a total of 169 the Dambulla side got off to a decent start. Their scoreboard read 50-2 at the end of the first six overs. Niroshan Dickwella and Angelo Perera combined to form a great partnership. The former finished with a score of 38 off 30 balls while the latter scored 45 off just 31 balls.
However, post their dismissal things became tougher for the chasing side. The equation came down to 59 needed in the last five overs. This is when Samiullah Shinwari stole the show. His knock of 46* off just 20 balls turned the match on its head. His inning included six boundaries and two sixes. He made sure he stayed till the end and his team won the game by four wickets to go to the top of the table.

Gunathilaka drop catch was like an ordinary street boy effort. Cannot believe an international cricketer over running a simple catch like a street boy. Such a pethatic fielding display
