Having lost four games on the trot, Melbourne Renegades were in dire need of a victory in the BBL. They were up against Sydney Sixers, who were coming off back-to-back victories. Aaron Finch and Co fought tooth and nail, but slumped to yet another defeat. This time, the Sixers beat them by six wickets at the Docklands Stadium. The victory has taken the Sixers to second in the points table.
Renegades stutter after blazing away
Aaron Finch tried to step on the gas, but became Jackson Bird’s first victim after getting nine. Sam Harper and Shaun Marsh then put on 58 off 37 balls. Harper was the more attacking of the two, scoring 45 off 24 with seven fours and a six. Marsh had his travails finding his timing. The veteran managed 40 at less than a run-a-ball. Tom Curran nipped Harper to separate the dangerous duo.
From there on, the Renegades lost all their momentum and could only manage 84 runs off the last 76 balls. Leg-spinner Lloyd Pope was tough to get away. The tweaker gave away 22 runs, picking the wickets of Marcus Harris and Beau Webster. Daniel Christian came to the Renegades’ rescue in the death overs. The veteran churned out a 17-ball 32 and took his team to a fighting score of 153.
Jordan Silk holds his nerve
The Sixers played calculated cricket and kept chipping away at the target. Joshua Phillippe (33) and Daniel Hughes (40) stitched together an opening wicket stand of 70 off 9.1 overs. Tom Andrews got rid of Phillipe to give the Renegades something to cheer for. Cameron Boyce got Hughes to bring his team right back. Andrews removed Moises Henriques to exert more pressure on the opposition.
Thereafter, James Vince and Jordan Silk (36*) got the innings going without any hiccup. They added 57 priceless runs for the fourth wicket before Boyce rattled Vince’s woodwork. Striking at 157.69, Vince was the Sixers’ most fluent batter. In last over, the Sixers needed 10 runs with Richard Gleeson in the attack. But Silk smacked the speedster over the cow-corner to seal the fate of the encounter.

Won't be mentioned but if Harper hits pegs and runs out Silk running the bye this could have been different. Keeper had to be ready for the bye run. #BBL09

Can blame Renegades’ batting or bowling all you want, but the reason they’re still winless is they are the *worst* fielding team in the comp. #BBL09

Seriously Richard Gleeson has figures of 2-150 in 5 games & has only bowled out his complete 4 overs once. Not sure who the worst import in BBL history is but this guy can’t be far off. #BBL2019 #BBL09
