In the 12th match of the Big Bash League 2019-20, Perth Scorchers locked horns with Sydney Sixers. It turned out to be a one-sided affair as Scorchers won the game and grabbed two important points that helped them in moving up the ladder to the fourth position on the points table. The fast bowlers of Sixers bowled at their helm best against Scorchers. Tom Curran was given Man of the Match for delivering an all-round performance.
At the start, Scorchers skipper Mitchell Marsh won the toss and elected to field first. His bowlers proved his decision right as the dismissed in-form batsman Josh Philippe in the third over of the innings when the team score was 19. The right-hand batsman attempted a pull on a short-pitched delivery bowled by Chris Jordan but the ball went into the keeper’s glove after taking an edge of the bat.
After that, James Vince came out to bat at number three and stitched a decent partnership with Daniel Hughes of 46 runs. However, it was broken by left-arm orthodox spinner Ashton Agar. Hughes attempted to walk down the track to go big against the spin but ended up missing the ball and Josh Inglis stumped him out.

Sixers captain Moises Henriques came out to bat and spent some time on the wicket. He was looking in fine touch with the bat, who smashed 35 runs off 20 balls four boundaries and one six before he was bowled by Jhye Richardson. At that time, Sixers were struggling at a score of 114 runs with all their top batsmen being sent back to the pavilion. However, a cameo knock played by seaming all-rounder Tom Curran of 43 runs in 21 balls helped his side to post a competitive total of 174 runs on the scoreboard.
Coming on to the chase, Sydney Sixer bowlers got off to a great start as they restricted Scorchers batsmen from scoring runs. Jackson Bird, who was playing his first game for the tournament dismissed the inform batsman Liam Livingstone in his first over. The right-handed batsman attempted a pull but ended up nicking the ball into the wicketkeeper’s gloves. It was a brilliant catch taken by Josh Philippe, who went dived to his left in order to dismiss Livingstone. In the very next over, Bird sent Cameron Bancroft back to the pavilion.
The match was going well for Curran, who after playing a swashbuckling knock, dismissed Josh Inglis because of which Scorchers were left struggling at a score 16 run for three wickets. It looked like Mitchell Marsh might help his team in reviving their chances of winning the match but that was not the case as Marsh got out after scoring just 17 runs.
Perth Scorchers’ batting line-up struggled against the fast bowling unit of Sydney Sixers. Speedsters Sean Abbott and Jackson Bird took three wickets each and helped their side to register an emphatic win by a margin of 48 runs.

Haven't had many close BBL games for the past season and a bit. People talk about the falling crowd numbers. This is another one of the reasons. Not sure what you do about that. You can't make the games close when they're not! #BBL09

I’m surprised the scorchers have made as many runs as they have at one point I doubted they’d even make the 100 mark #BBL09
