Thisara Perera might not be the world’s most adored all-rounder, but when he gets going, he does get a fruitful result. On a day when Dhaka struggled to get a par score with the bat, he chipped in with a cameo to push them past the safe line and when there was some trouble with the ball, he picked up a five-fer and won his side the game by 20 runs.
The game started on a worst possible note for the Platoon, having lost the wicket of Anamul Haque off the very first ball of the game. Mehedi Hasan was dismissed by Abu Hider Rony in the powerplay and Tamim Iqbal was left hapless. He did receive some support from Laurie Evans, but that partnership could only control the damage.
The side was struggling with the scoring rate when Tamim decided to shift gears and kept attempting the big heaves. When his 75-run partnership with Laurie Evans came to an end, the Platoon were hoping for something around 160 to pose a respectable challenge. But Perera had something else in mind.
Tamim completed his half-century whilst Thisara Perera smashed a 17-ball 42, which includes 7 fours and 1 six. This cameo from the all-rounder helped them score 180 runs batting first and they were a good 30 runs beyond the par score on this track.
Perera returns with figures of 5/30
Mehedi Hasan provided a good breakthrough in his first over, removing Yasir Ali with a beautiful delivery. Rajapaksa’s short-little cameo was entertaining but was cut short by the experience of Mashrafe Mortaza. After the Warriors lose these crucial wickets in such a short span of time, the middle order was always going to be in deep trouble.
Soumya Sarkar and Dawid Malan stitched an important partnership to ensure the innings won’t fall apart, but that was a temporary respite that didn’t offer a scoring rate good enough to challenge for a win. Mahidul Islam was next up to provide a cameo, but none of it was significant enough to take the Warriors over the line.
Eventually, the Warriors could only muster 160 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. Thisara Perera picked up 5 wickets in the innings, which included the crucial wickets of Sabbir Rahman, skipper Dasun Shanaka and also Mahidul Islam. The Platoon registered a convincing 20-run win get their net run-rate back in the positive zone.
