Pakistan were in the shambles after they lost six wickets with not even 100 on the board. On the third day of the Adelaide Test, the visitors did far better with the bat, but remained behind the 8-ball. With a couple of days left in the Day-Night Test, it’s seems to be a matter of time before Australia close out the game. Pakistan are trailing by a massive 248 runs with seven wickets in hand.
Babar and Yasir make hay
With Pakistan in grave danger, Babar Azam (97) and Yasir Shah (113) put their heads down and put on 105 runs for the seventh wicket. The duo mitigated the damage to some extent. Just when Babar looked good for his third Test ton, Mitchell Starc found his outside edge to cut short his knock. The scalp also gave Starc a five-wicket haul. The speedster got rid of Shaheen Afridi in the very next ball.
At the other end, Shah didn’t drop the gun and got to his fifty off 129 balls. He joined hands with Mohammad Abbas (29) for an 87-run stand and kept the Australian bowlers at bay for quite some time. Shah marched on and notched his maiden Test ton off 192 balls, and it also happened to be his maiden first-class ton as well. Pat Cummins churned out a vicious bouncer to send Abbas packing.
Pakistan batting crumble under pressure
Cummins nipped out Shah to bowl Pakistan out for 302. Most importantly, Australia garnered a lead of 387 runs. It didn’t spring much of a surprise when the hosts enforced the follow-on. Yet again, the visitors’ top-order crawled along. Josh Hazlewood sent back Imam-ul-Haq for a nine-ball duck to draw first blood. In the very next over, Starc picked up the prized scalp of the reliable Azhar Ali.
Babar Azam couldn’t carry his form from the last match. He edged one to Tim Paine off Hazlewood. However, Shan Masood, the Pakistan opener, didn’t throw his wicket away. He faced 55 balls for his 14 runs with the help of a couple of fours. Pakistan ended the day on 39 for the loss of three wickets in 16.5 overs. Along with Masood is Asad Shafiq, who has the knack of delivering in crisis.
Here is how Twitter reacted to the day’s play:-
Great resilience shown by @Shah64Y. Scoring a century in Australia coming at number 8 showing the rest of the batsmen "Asay hota hai bhai". ☺
Another good knock by @babarazam258 as well. #AUSvPAK pic.twitter.com/nMhqI6IAQm

Did Steve Smith always sit at the back of the bus? Is he the worst slip fielder ever or what? #AUSvPAK
