Indian pacer Umesh Yadav has revealed that he can continue playing cricket for the next two or three years. The right-arm pacer is 33 years old and explained that he can pull his body for a few years more. The Vidarbha bowler has been around the Indian Test team for quite some time now but hasn’t really played a lot of matches.
Yadav, though, has been India’s leading bowler after Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Ishant Sharma. Having made his debut for India in 2011, Yadav has played 48 Test matches so far and picked up 148 wickets. He has also played 75 ODIs for India, and last played in October 2018.
While stating his interest to continue playing cricket for the next few years, Yadav also pointed out that there are some quality youngsters coming through the ranks. He noted the resurgence of young players as a healthy thing as the team will benefit from it.
Feel this is just healthy because it ultimately ends up benefiting the team: Umesh Yadav
“I am 33 now and I know that I can mostly pull my body for another two or three years, and there will be some youngsters who will be arriving (to play). I feel this is just healthy because it ultimately ends up benefiting the team,” Umesh said to ESPNCricinfo.
Umesh further said that it is important to manage the workload of the bowlers during a tour. The fast-bowler suggested that a team that has five or six bowlers on a tour and mix and match combinations help decrease the stress of the players.
“When you have five or six fast bowlers on a tour of four or five Tests, you can play each one of them for two games to help reduce their stress and workload, so it helps that pack (of fast bowlers) play for longer,” Umesh added.
Umesh will be seen in action for the Delhi Capitals in the upcoming edition of the IPL. The fast-bowler had the first burst on the scene with his stint in the IPL with the Delhi Daredevils, now Delhi Capitals.) Over the years, he has developed his game and become one of the best bowlers in the country.
