Indian captain Virat Kohli is an animated character on the cricket field. He continues to show the cricketing globe that he is a world-class batsman. His on-field theatrics has never been in doubt whatsoever which has been part and parcel of the bat-ball game. He lets his emotions get the better of himself and reacts in a crazy manner, something which opposition teams would not want to see that quite often. However, he does that to pump himself up.
During the second ODI match between India and West Indies at Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA–VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam, Virat Kohli failed to get off the mark as he got out for a first-ball duck during India’s first innings. The supporters were in total disbelief after Kohli departed so soon. West Indies skipper Kieron Pollard was the main man who took the big wicket.
Pollard bowled a short-pitched delivery which forced Kohli to play the shot during the passage of play but he failed to connect that one properly. The ball went high in the air and went safely into the hands of Roston Chase. Pollard came out on top much to Virat Kohli’s annoyance. The Caribbean skipper looked at the sky and celebrated the wicket as Shimron Hetmyer joined in the celebration.
Virat Kohli gives Kieron Pollard an angry send-off
But the drama was not finished yet. During West Indies’ run-chase, Virat Kohli took the perfect opportunity to avenge the tease. The Indian skipper gave an angry send-off to Kieron Pollard after he was dismissed on a first-ball duck by Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami. Coming in to play after Nicholas Pooran’s dismissal, Pollard edged one to wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant off Shami, thus getting out on a duck. Kohli was the happy man after the fall of the wicket and he instantly gave an angry send-off to Pollard.
Indian bowlers successfully managed to defend the total as West Indies were skittled out for 280. India registered their fifth biggest win against West Indies, winning by 107 runs. Thanks to Kuldeep Yadav’s scintillating performance whose hat-trick did the job for India. India bounced back in style to level the series, meaning that there is plenty of drama left for the ODI decider which is scheduled to be played at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack on December 22 (Sunday).
Virat Kohli and Co have already won a T20I series against West Indies and one more win for the hosts will see them stamp their authority over the visitors. But in case, if the visitors weave the magic in the decider then Kieron Pollard and co will script history as it will be after more than a decade that they will win a series in Indian soil. It is worth mentioning here that Virat Kohli led India to the ODI series victory over West Indies in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
