Current India skipper Virat Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma, on Thursday, asked people to donate towards Assam and Bihar flood relief. Kohli, in a statement on Instagram, announced that they have pledged to donate to the relief funds and also urged people to contribute.
Bihar and Assam, along with battling COVID-19 pandemic, are also dealing with the devastating floods which have disrupted normalcy in both the states. While the Kosi has wreaked havoc in Bihar, the Brahmaputra is doing the same in Assam. In Bihar, over three lakh people have been evacuated thus far and more than 25,000 have been put up at 19 relief camps.
Talking about Assam, at least 107 people have died in various flood-related incidents. A total of 208 relief camps have been set up in which over 37,000 people, affected by the calamity, have taken shelter. With a surge in COVID-19 cases, the floods have plunged more misery on both the states.
Let’s do our part in helping them: Virat Kohli
Amid the stern situation in both the states, many cricketers have come forward to aid in the battle against the natural calamity. Kohli, on Friday, shared another clip to help those affected by floods. In the video, Kohli, along with many other sportspersons like KL Rahul, Sania Mirza, Yuzvendra Chahal, Harmanpreet Kaur and Kuldeep Yadav, can been seen auctioning their prized possessions for the flood victims.
For the auction, Kohli put up a pair of bats used by him while playing for India. Similarly, Saha put up his signed Test jersey, Kuldeep put up his hat-trick ball, Chahal put up the match ball where he picked a five-wicket haul against South Africa and Rahul put up the bat which he used to smash fastest half-century in the IPL.
Furthermore, Harmanpreet Kaur put up her 100th T20I jersey, Shubman Gill put up his signed Test jersey and Sania Mirza decided to auction the racquet with which she won the Australian Open women’s doubles in 2016.
The sportspersons highlighted that all the proceedings will be donated to the people affected in Assam and Bihar. “#WeAreTogetherForAssamAndBihar Our countrymen need us in these troubled times. Let’s do our part in helping them,” tweeted Kohli along with sharing the link to donate for the cause.
