India is up against England for a four-match Test series on their home soil and would be looking forward to sealing the series in style. However, seeing England’s masterclass in the first innings, things look quite tough for hosts right now. Indian skipper Virat Kohli is back in the squad after his paternity leave, and fans are desperately waiting for runs from his bat in the near time.
Kohli looked quite defensive in the first innings of the game and gave his wicket to Dom Bess after scoring just 11 runs. It was definitely not the start that fans and experts were expecting from him after a long while. However, former England great Michael Vaughan believes that he will smash one-two tons in this series to end his run drought. Though Vaughan has backed Kohli to regain his form soon, he added that his dismissal in the first inning looked ‘weak’ for a batsman of that stature.
It is a known fact that cricket mostly remained suspended in the year 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic all over the world, but fans expected a century from Kohli’s willow. It was the first year since his international debut in 2008 that he went without a century. The 32-year-old smashed the last ton in the year 2019 against Bangladesh.
I have no question about Virat Kohli’s centuries in this series: Vaughan
“I won’t be too concerned, and I’m sure he isn’t concerned. Throughout the series, he will get 1-2 hundreds. I have no question about that, The manner of his dismissal today was weak for Virat Kohli. He defended the ball outside the off-stump with an angled bat facing towards wide extra cover. There is nothing in that shot.
“As a young kid playing the game, you don’t defend an off-spinner outside off stump because you want to be keeping the face of the bat towards the ball. You play with an angled bat, and if there’s bounce, it goes to short leg. So technically, it wasn’t a great dismissal for Virat Kohli,” said Vaughan while speaking to cricbuzz.
