The South Group game in the Vitality T20 Blast 2019 will be played between Surrey and Essex at the Kennington Oval in London.
The match starts at 6:30 PM local time (11:00 PM IST) (5:30 PM GMT).
This game will be live on Surrey Cricket Club’s channel on YouTube.
Surrey and Essex, the teams in the bottom four of the South Group, will face off in the match at The Oval. Essex has got smallest of chance for qualifying to the quarter-finals as four of their matches ended without a result. They have 11 points from 12 matches but only six points came via three wins. They need to win their two games and also hope any three teams in contention to lose their remaining fixtures.
Surrey, on the other hand, is in a similar position. However, they earned 12 points from 13 matches thanks to five wins. They would need the loser of Kent-Gloucestershire match to lose one more match and Middlesex beat Somerset on Friday. Middlesex losing to Hampshire on Thursday is also works for the London based team. The form of Sam Curran and Aaron Finch will play a crucial role in their last league match.
The Oval is expected to be dry on Thursday with clear skies during the day. Some spells of rain are expected in the night which could be after completion of the match. The weather forecast doesn’t predict any rain during the match timings.
Surrey recorded first chase at The Oval in the T20 Blast 2019 in the match that were not affected by rain. The three matches finished without any reduction of overs before the Surrey-Somerset match witnessed the batting first side winning all three. The target of 158 did look tricky on Tuesday but Aaron Finch’s brilliance made it easy. Teams winning the toss would still look to bat first and post 180+.
Average first innings score: 168 (Unaffected T20 Blast matches in 2019)
Record of chasing teams: Won – 1, Lost – 3
Injury and Team News:
(Will be added when there is an update)
Probable Playing XIs:
Aaron Finch (C), Mark Stoneman, Sam Curran, Ollie Pope, Will Jacks, Ben Foakes (WK), Jordan Clark, Ryan Patel/Rikki Clarke, Gareth Batty, Imran Tahir, Jade Dernbach.
Bench: Scott Borthwick, Ryan Patel/Rikki Clarke.
Cameron Delport, Tom Westley, Adam Wheater (WK), Dan Lawrence, Ryan ten Doeschate, Ravi Bopara, Paul Walter, Simon Harmer (C), Mohammad Amir, Sam Cook/Aaron Beard, Adam Zampa.
Bench: Shane Snater, Jamie Porter, Sam Cook/Aaron Beard.
Dan Lawrence has got starts early in the tournament but he failed in converting those. Finally, he has learned from his past mistakes and has fifties in back to back matches. Aaron Finch wasn’t at his best in the whole tournament but he got better of Somerset in the previous. If he manages to survive Amir’s opening spell, another big knock from him is on cards.
Captain and Vice-Captain Selection:
Captain – Sam Curran, Aaron Finch, Dan Lawrence, Tom Westley
Vice-Captain – Ravi Bopara, Ollie Pope, Cameron Delport, Will Jacks
Sam Curran registered his first failure batting at No.3 this season but he covered it up with his bowling. Same could be seen against Essex as he plays the role of a death overs bowler.
Suggested Playing XI No.1 for Fantasy Cricket:
Keeper – Ollie Pope, Adam Weather
Batters – Dan Lawrence, Tom Westley, Aaron Finch (C), Will Jacks
All-Rounders – Ravi Bopara, Sam Curran (VC)
Bowlers – Jade Dernbach, Imran Tahir, Mohammad Amir
Suggested Playing XI No.2 for Fantasy Cricket:
Keeper – Ollie Pope
Batters – Dan Lawrence (VC), Will Jacks, Cameron Delport, Aaron Finch, Tom Westley
All-Rounders – Ravi Bopara, Sam Curran (C)
Bowlers – Adam Zampa, Imran Tahir, Gareth Batty
The bowling of Cameron Delport, Ravi Bopara and even Aaron Finch could come handy as The Oval surface suits to slow bowlers. Their bowling is one of the extra reasons why we have picked all the three in Team 2.
The inform Surrey could hit the last nail in the coffin for Essex.
