Australia handed a ten-wicket shellacking to Virat Kohli’s men in the first ODI of the three-match series at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. It was expected to be a battle of titans, but in the end, it turned out to be a damp squib of the highest proportion with the Men in Blue not really turning up to the occasion.
After India was bowled out for 255, fans still expected their famed bowling attack consisting of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav, which would make the lives difficult for the Aussies and make a fist out of the poultry total. But the duo of David Warner and Aaron Finch had different ideas.
The Aussie opening pair shellacked the famed Indian bowling by successfully countering every trick that the bowlers threw at them, to script an unbeaten 1st partnership of 258 runs. One half of the architect of that brilliant partnership, David Warner talked on a wide range of topics in a video by Sunrisers Hyderabad, including his relationship with Virat Kohli. Warner hailed Kohli’s competitive fire on the field but also admitted what a humble bloke the Indian captain is.
“The biggest thing about him is that he’s a competitor. The way he goes about it, he’s got a humble nature about him but on the field, he’s determined to always win. Sometimes, we head-butt on the field. When we’re on the field, we’re looking at each other, smiling, nodding and if it’s quiet, it’s quiet,” said Warner in the video.
David Warner waiting for Virat Kohli to invite him for dinner
Last month, David Warner shared a video on his Instagram account where his daughter Ivy can be seen hitting the ball before announcing herself as “I am Virat Kohli” Warner narrated the story behind the incident while also taking a subtle dig at Virat when he said that he is still for a dinner invite from the Indian captain.
“We were watching a replay on TV and Virat was playing. She came outside and started playing and said ‘I’m Virat Kohli’. I was like ‘what?’. ‘You watch me, you watch the other guys play and you watch one snipper of Virat and you want to be Virat Kohli?’. Kids are beautiful,” he said.
Talking about the ongoing series, Warner said, “It’s going to be a great battle and I’m looking forward to it. Waiting for Virat to invite me for dinner. I’ve got my phone here waiting, Virat’.
