Despite the commencement of ‘Unlock 1.0’, the COVID-19 outbreak is still wreaking havoc across the nation. The wrath of coronavirus is increasing with every passing day in India and more than 2.67 lakh positive cases have been registered so far. Amid these stern times, there’s no certainty whatsoever over the resumption of sporting events including the much-awaited IPL 2020.
Meanwhile, many former and current players have resorted to social media to keep themselves busy during their quarantine period. Due to this break, many players have come up with their favourite XI of all sorts. Wasim Jaffer, who has been quite active on Twitter in recent times, dished out his star-studded all-time ODI XI of India on Tuesday.
To start things off, Jaffer went with the opening pair of Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly. The Tendulkar-Ganguly pair is regarded as one of the most successful opening pairs in the history of Indian cricket. Sachin and Ganguly stitched 21 hundred and 23 fifty partnerships while opening the innings for India. Their tally remains the highest in the list of partnerships as openers.
The next two spots in Jaffer’s side went to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The modern-day greats of Indian side are currently an indispensable part of the Men in Blue. Jaffer chose Rohit at the No.3 slot while Kohli at the No.4 position.
Wasim Jaffer assigned the captaincy role to MS Dhoni
One exclusion from the side irked many fans and that exclusion was of former India opener Virender Sehwag. Sehwag was regarded as one of the most explosive openers, who brought a fresh wave in Indian cricket. Many fans also complained over the omission of another Indian legend, Rahul Dravid.
Jaffer slotted Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni at the No.5 and No.6 slot of his side. Along with the glovework, Jaffer also assigned the captaincy to Dhoni. The all-rounder spot of the side was filled by former World Cup-winning skipper Kapil Dev.
In the spin department, Jaffer went with Ravindra Jadeja or Harbhajan at the No.8 position, followed by Anil Kumble at the No.9 spot. And to finish things off, Jaffer went with the pace duo of Zaheer Khan and Jasprit Bumrah. While one is known for his swing ability, the other is known for his toe-crushing yorkers and accuracy.
