The coronavirus debacle has compelled cricketers to be active across social media platforms. Amid the lockdown, many cricketers have been interacting with their fans by the means of Instagram or Twitter. While some cricketers have resorted to Twitter Q&A, some have taken the route of Instagram live in order to stay connected with their fans.
Wasim Jaffer, on Wednesday, was involved in a live Instagram session with Crictracker where he answered several questions. The veteran also opined about the much-debated topic– who are the current fab five in international cricket.
Over the years, many match-winning players including Virat Kohli, Steve Smith and Babar Azam have etched their name into the record books. Considering their recent performances, fans often get into a debate that which five cricketers should be slotted into ‘Fab Five’ across all formats.
Jaffer also shared his opinion over the same and went with four usual names– Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, Kane Williamson and Joe Root as the ‘Fab Four’ of international cricket. However, for the fifth spot, Jaffer slotted Babar Azam. The Pakistan batsman has been delivering consistent performances across all formats for the Men in Green. The No.1 T20I batsman is touted to play a vital role in Pakistan’s quest in the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia.
Jaffer has been active on his Twitter amid the lockdown and the veteran had recently shared his best T20 XI comprising only one player from a country. He had included many prominent names like David Warner, Kane Williamson, Babar Azam and AB de Villiers in his side. For the Indian player in his side, Jaffer went with Jasprit Bumrah instead of skipper Virat Kohli.
For the all-rounder’s role, Jaffer slotted Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan and West Indies’ Andre Russell. He picked two leg-spinners as well– Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan and Nepal’s Sandeep Lamichhane.
Jaffer, who is regarded as one of the best players to have played in the domestic circuit, announced his retirement at the age of 42 in March 2020. The right-hander boasts a prolific record in First-class cricket where he has amassed 19410 runs in 260 matches at an impressive average of 50.67. The Mumbai batsman also has 57 First-class tons and 91 half-centuries under his belt.
