S Sreesanth, the tainted Indian fast bowler, said that India’s bilateral series against Pakistan shouldn’t go ahead. Earlier, Shoaib Akhtar, the former Pakistan speedster, said that the two nations need to play a series in order to raise funds for the ones affected in the fatal coronavirus pandemic.
Over the last few decades, India and Pakistan have been at loggerheads due to political turmoil. Responding to the idea, the 37-year-old pacer from Kerala said that he isn’t in favour of cricket between the two counties unless and until their relations improve.
S Sreesanth voices his opinion
“We are not in good terms with Pakistan so, India first and health first. Personally, I am not in favour of playing any match against Pakistan unless the relations between the two countries improve,” Sreesanth was quoted as saying on Instagram live.
Even Kapil Dev, India’s 1983 World Cup winning skipper, dismissed Akhtar’s words, saying that India doesn’t have financial issues in the grave situation. The veteran also wants the ‘blame game’ from politicians to stop.
“He is entitled to his opinion but we don’t need to raise the money. We have enough. For us, what is important right now is that how our authorities work together to deal with this crisis. I am still seeing a lot of blame game on television from the politicians and that needs to stop,” he said.
In India, the coronavirus cases have reached nearly 19,000 with the ungodly virus consuming the lives of over 600. Currently, the nation is under lockdown until May 3. The Indian government, led by Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been in the thick of things during this phase.
