There is surely a lot of buzz surrounding the third Test match between India and England that will take place at Ahmedabad. Not only will the match take place in the largest stadium in the world, but it will also be a Day-Night affair and will be played with a pink ball.
Going into the third Test, both India and England have won a game apiece. And, the final two Test matches in Ahmedabad will not only decide which team wins the Test series, it will also decide who will go on to face New Zealand in the final of the World Test Championship (WTC).
England batsman Zak Crawley has given his opinion on which side would have the advantage in the Pink ball Test at Ahmedabad. Crawley opined that the England side would definitely be more adept in seaming conditions than their Indian counterparts, as they had grown up trying to play the ball late. Crawley also added that the Indian players are ‘unbelievable’ players of spin, since they have grown up playing spin bowling.
“I think it will play into our hands. We have grown up with those conditions, trying to play the ball late in seaming conditions, so you would say we would be more adept at it than the Indians. That’s probably why they are unbelievable players of spin, because they have grown up with it,” said Crawley when he interacted with the British media.
Zak Crawley says that the Indian side has an unbelievable seam attack
However, Crawley was quick to admit that the Indian side has an ‘unbelievable’ seam attack and also has some incredible batsmen as well, and are a very capable side. The 23-year-old was of the opinion that the pink ball swings more than the red ball, and also said that the seamers will play a bigger role in the third Test than they did in the first two Tests. Crawley concluded by stating that the spinners would still play a huge role in the match and they would get the ball to skid a lot more as well.
“That said, they have an unbelievable seam attack and incredible batsmen so it won’t help us too much. They will be more than capable. (The pink ball) seems to be swinging more than the red ball, doing a bit more for the seamers. I expect a bit more seam in this game and for the seamers to have more of a chance than perhaps they did in the last couple of Tests. It also seems to be a bit harder so the spinners are skidding it on a bit more. The spinners are still going to have to play a big role and I would be surprised if they produce an absolute green seamer,” concluded Crawley.
