Kieron Pollard, on Thursday, created history by becoming the first-ever West Indies player to hit six sixes in an over. Overall, he became just the third player after Herschelle Gibbs and Yuvraj Singh to achieve this incredible feat in international cricket. Pollard hit six sixes in an over off Akila Dananjaya during the first T20I against Sri Lanka in Antigua.
After losing four quick wickets inside five overs, West Indies were in a spot of bother when Pollard was up against Dananjaya in the sixth over. In his previous over, the Sri Lanka spinner had taken a hat-trick. Another wicket at that stage would have definitely put Sri Lanka on top. Pollard, however, completely turned the game around by taking Dananjaya to the cleaners.
The delight of the hat-trick turned into despair in the space of just one over for Dananjaya as Pollard hit him for six sixes. Pollard became just the second player after Yuvraj to hit six sixes in an over in T20Is. Yuvraj had achieved the feat against England during the 2007 T20 World Cup when he hit Stuart Broad for six maximums. Gibbs, on the other hand, had achieved the feat against the Netherlands at the 2007 50-over World Cup.
Yuvraj Singh welcomes Kieron Pollard to the six sixes club:

Following the game, Pollard opened up on what was going through his mind while he was standing on the cusp of the record. Pollard stated that he was not sure about going for a sixth maximum but eventually decided to go for it.
“I felt after hitting a couple of sixes, I understood how the pitch plays, it was important to be positive and play your shots. Back yourselves to clear the boundary. A couple of things went through my mind before the sixth ball, I thought should I go for the six or take the 30 runs in the over, he went around the wicket and bowled it onto my pads, I told myself ‘Wait Polly, take a chance’. That’s how I have played my cricket all along, especially against the spinners,” said Pollard.
Pollard was dismissed for 38 off 11 balls in the following over by Wanindu Hasaranga but West Indies went on to win the game by four wickets. Chasing 132, the hosts crossed the finishing line in the 14th over.
