Despite so much confusion and trouble hovering over Chennai Super Kings in the last few days, the IPL 2020 is still expected to commence at its scheduled time. However, there is no official schedule on the table as of now, but fans are expecting the most awaited action to begin soon. Ever since at least 12 CSK members tested COVID-19 positive, it has come as a huge-blow for the team, and the official schedule is also getting delayed.
According to reports, when the BCCI is leaving no stone unturned to make possible arrangements to conduct league smoothly, a leading franchise is showing concern over losses incurred by the team due to the delay. The board has been clear on its stand to not compensate any such ‘losses’, but even then the franchise has raised questions yet again for the compensation.
In the same light, a senior BCCI official stated that franchises are being ‘penny-wise’ and ‘pound-foolish’ on their mean demands to expect compensation caused due to the delay of a deadly pandemic.
“Franchises are being penny-wise and pound foolish. What if there was no IPL this year? Would they be making any money? There are more random questions – like who will pay for agencies appointed by BCCI, who will bear costs of match operations? Who will compensate for costs incurred for hosting practice sessions? The board is clear that there will be no compensations,” stated a senior office-bearer and administrator of BCCI as quoted by TOI.
Each franchise will earn around Rs 150 cr this IPL: BCCI
The Indian cricket board further said that each franchise would be having 150 crores in their bag, and should stop making a fuss about each penny. As per the board, it’s the time to help the COVID-19 victims rather mulling on garnering money.
“At a time when franchises should be wondering how to do something for COVID victims in the country, they are counting pennies. Are they not making money? Each franchise will earn around Rs 150 cr this IPL. These are absurd demands,” the BCCI member added.
However, a BCCI official was confident enough to state that franchises are not instigating any such issues, but a board member only has been fueling the fire for personal gains, which is too unfortunate.
