Glenn Maxwell, the prolific all-rounder from Australia is currently playing for Melbourne Stars in the ongoing Bis Bash League 2019-20. He is leading his team from the front as he has managed to pull off some brilliant all-round performances with ball and bat. On Friday, he played a magical knock against out of form Melbourne Renegades and set the stage on fire at Docklands Stadium. After the game, Renegades skipper Daniel Christian said something that ignited a debate over the omission of Maxwell from the national side for the upcoming tour of India.
The 31-year-old has been one of the mainstays of Australia in the limited-overs format. But a sudden dip in his form with the bat as well as his mental health issues sidelined him from the national team. He didn’t have a great stint in the 2019 World Cup that was hosted by England. In the mega event, he managed to score only 177 runs in 10 games with a best of 46* while in bowling he went wicketless in the tournament.
Glenn Maxwell in red-hot form in the ongoing Big Bash League
Later on, in the T20I series against Sri Lanka, Maxwell came with impressive performances in the first two games but he ruled himself out from the final game due to mental health issues. He marked his comeback in Big Bash League as skipper of Melbourne Stars. There is no doubt over the fact that he is currently middling the ball well as he has muscled 311 runs in his eight games with three half-centuries and he has grabbed four wickets with the ball.
On Monday at Docklands stadium he was at his prime with the bat against Melbourne Renegades. He played a blissfull knock of 83 runs off 45 balls with seven massive sixes and one boundary. Maxwell revived his team from a critical position in the match and helped Stars in registering their fifth consecutive win in the ongoing tournament. Even the commentators were amazed behind Maxwell’s omission for the upcoming tour of India.
After the match, Daniel Christian could be heard saying to Maxwell that “What the f*** are you doing here?” while shaking hands. It was quite evident from Christian’s statement that the right-handed prolific all-rounder should have been with the national side on an important tour of India.
Meanwhile, Australia is scheduled to play three-match ODI series against Virat Kohli and Co. starting from 14th January as the series opener will be played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
