India showed its unity on Sunday after most of the people in the country followed PM Narendra Modi‘s appeal to switch off the lights at 9 PM and light diyas, candles or mobile torch lights for nine minutes. This was done to show solidarity with the people working hard to save the lives and also to show the nation’s unity during this crisis time. While majority of the nation did its duty, there were a few who marred the moment by bursting the crackers and coming out in large numbers on roads violating social distancing and lockdown.
While addressing the nation a couple of days ago, Modi had specifically mentioned that no one should come out of their homes and have to light diyas either from their balcony or doors. But even then some people didn’t listen and did what they did during the Janta Curfew on March 22. After experiencing a lot of such incidents, India cricketer Ravi Ashwin has expressed his views on the matter.
He was baffled to see people buying crackers even during the lockdown and questioned who is selling crackers even now. “But I really do wonder where all these people bought their crackers from and of course ( when is the most important Q) !!” he tweeted.

Meanwhile, Ravi Ashwin has been doing his best to create awareness through social media. Interestingly, he also changed his username to ‘lets stay indoors india’ to urge his fans and followers to stay at home and save others’ lives.
Indian cricketers unite with the nation
On Sunday, the Indian cricketers, like they have been all this time, came forward and supported Modi in this initiative. The likes of Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, Suresh Raina among others lit diyas standing in the balcony of their homes and hoped for these troubled times to come to an end soon.
“My family & I thank the selfless #SanitationWarriors cleaning our surroundings & hospitals, disinfecting affected areas & thus keeping the virus at bay. Let’s also reignite our pledge to take care of our elders, the most vulnerable – by ensuring their physical & mental wellness,” Sachin Tendulkar tweeted.
