KL Rahul seems to be running out of time in the longest format of the game. The selectors have stuck with him for quite a long time thus far. However, he has failed to impress of late. Thus, there have been several demands about trying out Rohit Sharma as an opener in Test cricket. India’s chief selector MSK Prasad seems to be in sync with this idea and said that he’d like to consider that option.
KL Rahul, after the century he scored in England last year, has had a rough patch. In his last 12 Test innings, the 27-year-old failed to get past the 50-run mark even once. Thus, it has been quite frustrating for the fans to see him struggle and yet secure a place in the eleven ahead of Rohit Sharma. The Indian limited-overs vice-captain is possibly in the best phase of his career. The likes of Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman have also backed him to be a Test opener.
We are definitely concerned about his form
MSK Prasad revealed that the selectors didn’t meet after the conclusion of the West Indies tour. However, he even noted that they will definitely consider Rohit Sharma as an opener and affirmed that they’ll discuss about the same.
“As selection committee, we haven’t met after the conclusion of the West Indies tour. We will definitely take this (Rohit as an opener) point into consideration when we all meet and discuss about it,” MSK Prasad, chairman of the national selection committee, told India Today in an exclusive interview.
MSK Prasad also termed KL Rahul as a great talent. However, he understood that he is going through a rough time in Test cricket. The former cricketer noted that they were concerned about his form and said that he needed to spend more time on the wicket to regain his touch and form.
“KL (Rahul) is definitely a great talent. Of course, he is going through a bit tough time in Test cricket. We are definitely concerned about his form. He needs to spend more time on the wicket and regain his touch and form,” the former wicketkeeper-batsman added.
