With tension between India and Pakistan escalating, former Pakistan cricketer Javed Miandad said that he wants peace to be restored between the two fierce neighbours. The tension has been on the rise since India’s historic step to abrogate Article 370 which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir. With the article now abolished, Jammu and Kashmir has been bifurcated into two union territories.
However, the move has not gone down well with Pakistan who are trying all they can to make India overturn their decision. India, on the other hand, have shown no interest at all in Pakistan’s whining and have called the matter internal. Consequently, there has been no bilateral talks between the two countries which has further made things worse.
And with the situation showing no signs of improvement, Javed Miandad has urged for peace from both nations. The legendary batsman said that he will visit Line of Control (LOC) with other sportspersons to propagate peace at the border. Miandad also urged that India and Pakistan should find a peaceful solution.
“I will go to the border for peace. I will call all the top people, the sportspeople and everyone. I will go there and tell everyone about peace. I will go with a peace flag. If these things did not stop then I will go border with anyone who will join me and after going there I will tell people that we want peace and we are with Kashmiri people,” Miandad said in a video he posted on his Twitter handle.
“I will take all the people from sports fraternity and all the people from all over the world, and I will go to the border and hoist a flag for peace. All the soldiers there will see how peaceful we are. I want India and Pakistan to end everything peaceful,” he added.
‘Equal rights for everyone’
The Pakistani legend went on to say that every person should be allowed to exercise his right. Just like his compatriots, he too said that Kashmir issue needs to be resolved although India have already taken the final step from their side.
“I want everyone to get their right. They are fighting for their rights for 40 years. If you treat people unfairly, more instances will come up. Everyone needs to think about Kashmir and find a solution,” Miandad said.
