India and the Windies are currently playing the third and final of the ODI series in Trinidad. The hosts won the toss and opted to bat first on a pitch which looked very good for batting. They made two changes to their team including Keemo Paul and Fabian Allen at the expense of Sheldon Cottrell and Oshane Thomas. India, on the other hand, benched Kuldeep Yadav to play Yuzvendra Chahal. They are leading the series by 1-0 and would be keen on winning the series win yet another win in this game.
However, as the game started, many were left perplexed to see the Caribbean openers Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis walk out with a black armband on their hand. Just before the match, Evin Lewis’ grandmother passed away and the Windies team decided to pay tribute to her. The left-hander was strong enough to not miss the match though and walked out on the park with his partner Gayle.
The same was confirmed by the commentator on air and the former West Indies cricketer Ian Bishop during the first over of the innings.
Gayle gets going with a six
Chris Gayle probably playing the last ODI of his career played out a maiden to start with off Bhuvneshwar Kumar. He looked determined though middling most of the deliveries of the over and then Mohammed Shami just played into his hands by bowling a no-ball when he was yet to get off the mark after facing 7 balls.
The pacer dished out a length ball then which the Universe Boss pummelled for a huge six over deep mid-wicket and got off the mark in the easiest possible way. However, soon after the maximum, the heavens opened up and it started to rain heavily. But it looked like a passing shower and the play looks set to resume and the Caribbean fans will now be hoping for a special show from Gayle.
