The coaching crew of the Indian national team has seen a change recently as a number of names got renewed contracts. While head coach Ravi Shastri got his second stint that will continue till 2021, bowling coach Bharat Arun also survived. However, batting coach Sanjay Bangar faced the axe and was set to be replaced by former India opener Vikram Rathour.

The absence of Bangar has paved the way for Arun, a former first-class cricketer, to become the No.2 in the support staff after Shastri. The 56-year-old reportedly could also be re-designated as the assistant coach, a position that Bangar had held so far. Arun’s survival was aided by the fact that the Indian bowling attack has been doing consistently well over the last few years – both at home and abroad.

The likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Yuzvendra Chahal, and others have made up a complete attack that can rattle any opposition on a given day. The performance on the ground has benefited Arun and with Bangar’s exit, he became the automatic choice for promotion which would also see his remuneration going up.

According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, the modalities of the contract and remuneration package of the support staff members will be determined once Board of Control for Cricket in India CEO Rahul Johri returns to the country. R Sridhar is the side’s fielding coach.

RCB eyeing Bangar?

Meanwhile, it has been reported that Bangar, who has played 12 Tests and 15 ODIs for India between 2001 and 2004 and has one international hundred, came on the radar of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) — the Indian Premier League franchise that recently overhauled its coaching staff in a bid to improve its prospects next year.
