The 20th match of the Women’s Super Smash 2019-20 will be played between Northern Spirit and Wellington Blaze at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.
The match starts at 3:30 PM local time (2:30 AM GMT) (8:00 AM IST).
The routine of the Wellington Blaze in the Women’s Super Smash 2019-20 has been beating any team they have faced in the tournament. As a result, they have won all the six matches they played till the end of 2019 and now aim to start the New Year with yet another victory. The Blaze will now tour Mt. Maunganui to face the Northern Spirit at the Bay Oval. The Nothern Spirit made a decent start but lost both the matches in the last week and are pushed down to No.5 among the six teams. However, they have played two matches less than both Sparks and Hinds who are ahead of them with three wins.
No threat of rain is forecast for Wednesday at the Bay Oval especially during the afternoon when the Blaze takes on the Spirit.
The Bay Oval has been a high-scoring venue when it comes to the Women’s T20Is as New Zealand posted 160+ totals twice in two matches against the West Indies in 2018. However, the 2018/19 Super Smash game was a low scoring match which could be a different one this time around. Considering Men’s game to follow and the game being played on New Year day, we could be in for a high-scoring match.
Average first innings score: 155 (Women’s T20s since 2018)
Record of chasing teams: Won – 1, Lost – 2
Injury and Availability:
(Will be added when there is an update)
Probable Playing XIs:
Katie Gurrey, Bernadine Bezuidenhout, Felicity Leydon-Davis (C), Kate Anderson, Brooke Halliday, Eimear Richardson, Olivia Lobb (WK), Lily Mulivai, Charlotte Sarsfield, Carolyn Esterhuizen, Lauren Heaps.
Bench – Lucy Boucher, Emma Baker.
Rachel Priest (WK), Rebecca Burns, Sophie Devine (C), Maddy Green, Amelia Kerr, Leigh Kasperek, Thamsyn Newton, Liz Green-Perry, Jess Kerr, Maneka Singh, Deanna Doughty.
Bench – Beth Molony, Jess McFadyen.
Katie Gurrey went past the 300-run mark in the tournament as she amassed 303 runs at an average of 101 with a century and two fifties. Skipper Felicity Leydon-Davis scored 40 runs and also picked up a wicket in the last match. Both the Kerrs have been quite impressive especially with the ball for the Wellington Blaze. Jess Kerr has claimed 10 wickets while Amelia Kerr has 10 wickets and also scored 143 runs in the six matches thus far.
Captain and Vice-Captain Selection:
Captain – Sophie Devine, Katie Gurrey, Amelia Kerr
Vice-Captain – Bernadine Bezuidenhout, Jess Kerr, Felicity Leydon-Davis
Suggested Playing XI No.1 for Fantasy Cricket:
Keeper – Rachel Priest, Bernadine Bezuidenhout
Batters – Katie Gurrey, Brooke Halliday, Rebecca Burns
All-Rounders – Sophie Devine (C), Felicity Leydon-Davis (VC), Amelia Kerr
Bowlers – Deanna Doughty, Jess Kerr, Carolyn Esterhuizen
Suggested Playing XI No.2 for Fantasy Cricket:
Keeper – Bernadine Bezuidenhout
Batters – Katie Gurrey (C), Maddy Green, Rebecca Burns
All-Rounders – Amelia Kerr (VC), Kate Anderson, Charlotte Sarsfield, Sophie Devine
Bowlers – Deanna Doughty, Eimear Richardson, Jess Kerr
The reason for missing out on picking Leigh Kasperek is due to the combination and her pricing. She could be picked ahead of Sarsfield in the Suggested XI No.2 but the International player is 0.5 credits more than the all-rounder. Hence, we have to expect both the Kerrs to pick as many wickets as possible in this scenario.
It will be a surprise if the Wellington Blaze doesn’t win their 7th consecutive match of the tournament.
