Mistakes are part and parcel of every game and cricket is not an exception either. Over the years, we have seen even the best of the bowlers or batsmen making mistakes. Quite a number of bowlers have lost control on a number of occasions. From Brett Lee bowling a beamer to Sachin Tendulkar, RP Singh’s delivery reaching MS Dhoni on more than once bounce in England to Mohammad Hafeez bowling an unbelievable loopy delivery in this year’s World Cup – one has seen a number of such instances.
But a recent bizarre delivery that was bowled during a tennis-ball match is arguably the most bizarre of the lot. Tennis ball cricket is very popular in this cricket-obsessed nation and quite a number of players made it to the national team by impressing with that tennis ball. The likes of Umesh Yadav and Navdeep Saini first made a name for themselves by playing tennis ball cricket before breaking into the Indian team.
Coming to the latest incident, a tennis ball bowler bowled a wide delivery that has made many scratch their heads. Wide deliveries are very common in the game. One cannot expect the bowler to be on the money on almost every delivery that he bowls. However, we usually see the bowler missing the wide-mark by a fraction of inch or by a very small distance.
However, the tennis ball bowler missed his mark by a distance that cannot be explained in words and one will have to watch the video embedded at the bottom of this article to find it out. In the video, a left-hand fast bowler with uncanny action can be seen bowling at a right-hand batsman. He whips the ball with full strength but the ball did not land at the desired spot.
Instead of landing on the pitch, the ball flew towards the point boundary clearing the fielders, thanks to the uneven bounce of a tennis ball. The fielders could not do much but see the ball sail over them. Unsurprisingly, the video has gone viral on the internet.
Here is the clip of that bizarre delivery:
