Yuvraj Singh, the former Indian all-rounder retired from all forms of cricket earlier this year. After bidding his farewell from the game, he is quite often seen taking a dig at BCCI and on their selection policies. Recently, he hit back again on the same topic.
37-year-old was left out of the Indian team in 2017 after their tour to West Indies and the reason given by the selectors on his exclusion from the squad was that he failed in passing the Indian fitness standards in a test called yo-yo test.
Yuvraj Singh feels yo-yo test should not be given extra preference in selections
In the interview given to Gulf News, Yuvraj accepted the fact that if Sourav Ganguly was there at the time of his fallout from the team, the things would have been different. He also added that the yo-yo test couldn’t have been an excuse for a player’s exclusion from the team if that individual is performing well.
“Yes, I maintain that if Sourav would have been there, things would have been different. The yo-yo test (a brainchild of the Virat Kohli-Ravi Shastri regime) couldn’t have been an excuse if a player was performing to keep him out of the reckoning. In Sourav, we have a former cricketer and a very successful captain who understands the needs of the players. I consider him to be a visionary and hope he looks after the state of domestic cricket as well,” former World Cup-winning all-rounder quoted.
Yuvraj is expected to take part in a unique cricket banter at the Ultimate Kricket Challenge which is scheduled to take place in the UAE next year. He is excited about the unique format, which is going to be one-on-one encounter and in a cage. He recited that it will be fun to play alongside Chris Gayle, Kevin Pietersen and others in one on one challenge.
“Playing in such leagues abroad is good fun, you meet the players — like me and Chris (Gayle) are here. I am, of course, looking to bowl at KP (Pietersen) in the Challenge here,” he added.
The left-handed former Indian cricketer was also picked by Maratha Arabians at the T10 League in Abu Dhabi. The tournament is scheduled to take place from November 15.
