India was up against Australia in the first Test of the four-match Test series against England in Chennai, where they suffered a gigantic loss on the fifth day. It was expected that the confidence of India would be flying owing to their high profile series win in Australia, but things didn’t go as expected. The team was led by Ajinkya Rahane in Australia, and skipper Virat Kohli’s presence was much awaited in the lot.
However, when Kohli came back, and fans expected another great show from India, they had to cope up with a severe defeat. After the 1st game, several questions are being pointed on the team management. There is a lot going on about who should land up in the playing XI for the 2nd Test and where the team has lacked. In the same light, one aspect that grabbed the limelight was Kohli’s statement about the body language of the team in the first Test.
Kohli had stated- “Our body language and intensity was not up to the mark, second innings we were much better. We were better in the second half of the first innings with the bat, not the first four batters.”
It’s true, sometimes players don’t have energy on the field: Ajinkya Rahane
In the latest turn of events, India’s Test deputy Ajinkya Rahane addressed a virtual press conference where he spoke on various areas of concern for the team. Rahane also got questioned about Kohli’s statements that he gave over the body language of team members. The same questions by a journalist didn’t go very well with Rahane, and he immediately stated-
“Yes, it’s true, sometimes players don’t have energy on the field. It’s not because the captain changed. If you’re looking for masala, you’re not going to get it here.”
It is a clear fact that Rahane was praised a lot for his captaincy tactics, which he flaunted in the recently concluded Australian tour. Many demanded that he should be given the permanent captaincy charge owing to his calm and composed demeanour. However, he himself cleared everything by stating that Virat Kohli is his skipper and he respects him a lot.
