England cricketer Ben Stokes is hailed as one of the most explosive all-rounders of the modern era. Stokes has impressed everyone with his solid techniques and consistency with both bat and ball. Over the years, the swashbuckling cricketer has established himself as a player who could pretty much win matches for his side either through his electric fielding, deceiving bowling, or fierce batting.
Stokes made his debut for England in 2011 against Ireland. In his glorious career of 9 years, the 29-year-old has represented England in 66 Tests, 95 ODIs and 26 T20 Internationals scoring 4,419, 2,682 and 305 runs respectively. Ben has been impressive with the ball too as he took 156, 70 and 14 scalps in Tests, ODIs and T20Is respectively.
On Sunday, former Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir showered praises on the English southpaw saying that there’s nobody in world cricket who is close to Ben Stokes at the moment. He also added that Ben is a player of a different league and has excelled in all the three formats of the game.
Speaking on Star Sports show Cricket Connected, Gambhir said, “You can’t compare anyone in India at the moment with Ben Stokes. Absolutely not, because Ben Stokes is in his own league. What he has done in Test cricket, what he has done in one-day cricket, what he has done in T20 cricket, I don’t think so there’s anyone, let alone in India, there isn’t anyone who’s even close to him in world cricket at the moment.”
Ben Stokes a leader in his own capacity: Gautam Gambhir
Further, in the show, Gautam opined on the leadership skills of the England all-rounder. He said that having a player like Stokes in his team is a blessing for any captain as he excels in all the three departments of the game be it batting, bowling or fielding. The veteran cricketer also believes that Ben is an inspiration for a lot of people.
“And that is the kind of impact player you need in every line-up. It would be a dream for every captain to have someone like Ben Stokes – whether he’s batting, whether he’s bowling, whether he’s fielding – and he’s a leader in his own capacity. You don’t have to be a leader to be a leader, you don’t need to be called a captain to be a captain.
You can be a leader by your own performances as well. So, I think there are a lot of guys who would be actually looking to be like Ben Stokes, but unfortunately, there’s no one at the moment in world cricket.” said the 38-year-old.
