Just days after Shoaib Akhtar slammed Virender Sehwag for his comments on Pakistani cricketers, another former player from the country, Rana Naved-ul-Hasan has followed suit. The former India opener recently said that former Pakistan players like Rana Naved-ul-Hasan, Saqlain Mushtaq and Mohammad Yousuf praise India only in hope of getting a contract from Indian media outlets.
In recent times, a number of former Pakistan cricketers have opened their YouTube channels and make sure to praise India in order to attract the Indian fans. As far as Rana Naved-ul-Hasan was concerned, Sehwag was perhaps referring to the former bowler’s comment regarding him way back in 2016. In 2016, Rana Naved had hailed Sehwag as the best captain he played under after his stint with the Masters Cricket League side Gemini Arabians.
“Former Pakistan players like Mohammad Yousuf, Saqlain Mushtaq, Rana Naved & more are keen to praise Indian cricket as they are after money from Indian media and they know that by praising the Indian team they may get contracts from Indian media outlets,” Sehwag had said in 2016.
Rana Naved-ul-Hasan responds
Taking a cue from Shoaib Akhtar, Rana Naved-ul-Hasan also hit back at Virender Sehwag, warning the legendary India batsman not to speak ill of Pakistani cricketers. The former bowler called Sehwag’s comments ridiculous while he also refuted the ex-India opener’s claim that Pakistani cricketers praise their arch-rivals in order to earn money.
“Sehwag has given a ridiculous statement against Pakistan cricketers. He said that we praise India because we need gigs in Indian channels. This is not true and I also take my words back because you people cannot digest respect,” Rana said in a video uploaded on YouTube.
“I played under Sehwag in a league in Dubai and we won that tournament under his captaincy so I praised him. Although we won that tournament because of the players but credit also goes to you [Sehwag] because you were the captain. You took it the wrong way insinuating that we praised you because we need stints in India channels.”
“You had given a ridiculous statement two years ago as well but we ignored it. However, we have to respond this time in order to shut you up on social media. Khabardar agar humare legend players ke khilaf aapne ek lafz bhi galat bola. (Don’t you dare speak rubbish about our legendary cricketers). We respect our senior players,” he added.
