Aaron Finch getting unsold at the IPL 2021 auction has been a talking point for the past couple of days. Former Australian captain Michael Clarke had previously said that he was shocked to see no bids for the Australian ODI and T20I skipper. Now after Finch’s comment on being unsold, Clarke has once again said something, and this time, with a hint of criticism.
After being unsold at the auction, Finch who has had a tough time with the bat lately shared his thoughts in interaction with Cricket.com.au. In that, Finch suggested that he was expecting not to get picked at the auction after having a poor run with the bat in BBL 2020-21.
“It would have been nice to be playing again. It’s a wonderful competition to be a part of but it wasn’t unexpected that I wasn’t picked up, to be honest. I’d prefer to be playing cricket, but a little bit of time at home won’t be the worst thing,” Finch had said.
You’re the Australian captain, you should be expecting that every team wants you: Michael Clarke
Michael during a show named ‘Big Sports Breakfast’ said that he felt Finch should be feeling that every IPL team wanted to pick him. The former Australian batter was not impressed with Finch’s attitude or comment.
“Well, like I said the other day, no IPL franchise; I can’t believe he came out and said, ‘oh yeah, I expected this to be the case,” You’re the Australian captain in that format, you should be expecting that every team wants you,” Clarke said.
Finch didn’t have a great season with Royal Challengers Bangalore last year. He played 12 matches, scoring 268 runs with a strike rate of 111. Towards the end of the tournament, he was dropped from a few matches as well. Clarke expressed his displeasure in seeing Finch’s attitude. Finch also had a bad BBL season, where he averaged 13.76. He scored one run in the first T20I against New Zealand on Monday.
“And you’re allowed to have a bad series, like, even his BBL, if he’s got that attitude where he believes he’s as good as a player as he is, then he says, ‘you know what, I’ve had a bad BBL but all that means is with every less score I’m due for a big one, I’m due for a big one, I’m due for a big one.’ Not, ‘I expected no-one to pick me up.’ I don’t get that,” said Clarke.
