Former Australia vice-captain David Warner made a successful return to form in Test cricket in the recently concluded two-match series against Pakistan. Coming on the back of a forgettable Ashes series where the southpaw could manage just 95 runs across ten innings, Warner shellacked the Pakistani bowlers to all corners of the Gabba and Adelaide Oval.
The southpaw shellacked a plethora of records on his way to his maiden triple hundred which includes the tenth best individual score in Test history to go along with it being the second-best individual score by an Australian. Apart from his batting skills, Warner is one of the most tactically astute leaders in white-ball cricket and he has proved that with his exploits in the IPL.
However, following the imposition of a lifetime ban from captaining Australia by CA, the southpaw could well become one of the great captains who never led Australia. But, Warner isn’t much fussed about it. The southpaw opened up on the issue during a chat with Fox Sports.
“At the end of the day, you’ve just got to respect the decision and move on and get on with it. I haven’t looked back, I’ve just kept on looking forward. And my job is to come out and score runs. I didn’t do well in England but it’s about me trying to return to scoring runs and putting my best foot forward for the team,” Warner was quoted as saying by foxsports.com.au.
David Warner is looking forward to the Kiwi challenge
Another tough challenge awaits Warner and the Aussies though as they lock horns with the No.2 ranked Test side in the world, New Zealand. With the Kiwis boasting of a great attack in their bowling unit, Warner and co could be in for a substantial challenge with the bat; something which the southpaw is looking forward to.
“I backed myself and just enjoyed it. I had a bit of time out of the game to reflect on a lot of things. Now that I am back here, I am enjoying it and am hungrier than ever. We are going to come up against quality opposition (on New Zealand). It’s always a good contest,” Warner added.
The first Test of the three-match series between the Trans-Tasman rivals starts with a day-night affair at the Optus Stadium in Perth from December 12.
