There’s no stopping Jasprit Bumrah. After an impressive outing in the 2019 World Cup, the Ahmedabad-born speedster is unfolding mayhem in the West Indies. In the two-match Test series, he has arguably been the standout bowler. He made his debut back in January 28 and already has five-wicket hauls in South Africa, England, Australia and now in the Caribbean Islands.
In the first Test at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua, Bumrah picked up a fifer in the second innings in a mere eight overs. He also became the fastest Indian bowler to complete 50 Test wickets in a mere 11 games. The Windies’ batters looked hapless while facing his tor-crushers and bouncers. Bumrah has carried over his form in the second Test as well.
Jasprit Bumrah weaving magic in Jamaica
At the Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica, he became the third Indian bowler after Harbhajan Singh and Irfan Pathan to notch a Test hat-trick. India scored 416 runs in their first innings following which Bumrah came to the party. Bumrah nipped out John Campbell to draw first blood. The eighth over of the innings turned out to be a nightmare for the hosts and a fairy-tale for the pacer.
Darren Bravo couldn’t handle the bouncer generated by Bumrah and he edged one straight into the hands of KL Rahul, who took a good low catch in the slip cordon. Both Shamarh Brooks and Roston Chase managed to bag golden ducks, trapped plumb in front by Bumrah. Chase’s wicket wasn’t a straight-forward one as the on-field umpire didn’t give the batsman out initially.
However, Indian captain Virat Kohli resorted to the Decision Review System (DRS) and the on-field decision had to be overturned. Bumrah didn’t stop after the hat-trick and nipped out opposition skipper Jason Holder and opener Kraigg Brathwaite. In the meantime, Yuvraj Singh, the former Indian cricketer, isn’t surprised by Bumrah’s incredible spell of bowling.
Yuvraj congratulated Bumrah and said that he is the number one fast bowler and hence, it didn’t surprise him. The veteran all-rounder took to Twitter and wrote, “Congratulations @Jaspritbumrah93 on your hatrick ‘ someone like you totally deserves it ! Rather I’m not surprised because your world no 1 and that’s how you show it,”
