Australia and India are currently involved in the first T20I of the three-match series. The series opener is being played at the Manuka Oval in Canberra as India posted 161 runs on the board after losing the toss. Ravindra Jadeja slammed an unbeaten 44 off 23 balls to propel the visitors. However, the all-rounder was hit on the head in the final over while facing Mitchell Starc and he hasn’t come out to field in the second innings.
While Jadeja batted out the last over, it seems he has faced some issues and Yuzvendra Chahal has been named his concussion substitute. Interestingly, no medical attention was given to him after being hit on the head during the final over and clearly, the Australia head coach Justin Langer was frustrated when he was told about the substitute by the match referee.
According to the rules, a like-for-like replacement has to be named as the concussion substitute but India didn’t seem to have one up their sleeve. With Chahal available to bowl four overs, Langer’s frustration and anger was understandable as the leggie could make a huge difference in the game.
Ravindra Jadeja had hamstring issues while batting
With Ravindra Jadeja being hit on the helmet, team India is within its rights to ask for the concussion substitute. But another notable thing here is, the southpaw was struggling with his hamstring during his brilliant knock with the bat. He couldn’t run fast as well and the way Langer was arguing, it seemed he was pointing out the same as well. Moreover, no like-for-like replacement also might have irked him.
Earlier in the game, Australia opted to field after winning the toss. India didn’t get off to a great start with Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli getting out early. However, KL Rahul slammed a half-century and Sanju Samson also flexed his muscles to hit a couple of lusty blows. But they lost their way completely in the third quarter of the innings losing wickets in quick intervals. But it was Ravindra Jadeja who helped them finish on a high as India scored 64 runs in the last five overs.
