The wicketkeeping is a very tedious job with little appreciation for the one doing it. One has to be on his feet at all times and focus should be unwavering as there can be an opportunity any minute and on every ball. Therefore, when wicketkeepers get a dismissal from out of nowhere, usually the video of the said wicket goes viral in no time.
Talent for this tedious job comes at a young age and Zimbabwe’s U19 team’s wicketkeeper Dane Schadendorf proved that he is on his way to becoming one of the best with gloves despite being just 17 years of age. He pulled off an all-time great stumping in a match against the New Zealand U19 team and video has caught the attention of the whole cricketing world, who are appreciating the effort of the young gloveman.
A backhand flick by Dane Schadendorf sends the batsman back to the pavilion
The incident happened when Zimbabwe U19 and New Zealand U19 faced off in a match during the quadrangular tournament held in South Africa. The match was played in Durban and the moment happened in the 36th over of Kiwi innings, bowled by spinner Tadawanashe Nyangani. The over was going nicely for the bowler until on the fourth delivery the batsman tried to be cheeky.
On the said delivery, New Zealand’s Beckham Wheeler-Greenall decided to get fancy and stepped out of the crease to hit Nyangani out of the ground, but ended up in missing the ball altogether. The ball went down the leg side, where Schadendorf moved to his left to collect the ball. Thanks to his momentum, he couldn’t see the stumps, but back-flipped the ball on to them and caught the batsman Wheeler-Greenall short of the crease.
This effort from the Zimbabwean keeper has drawn widespread applause from all quarters and even had comparisons done with Indian great MS Dhoni and Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara by some Twitter users.
Here is the video of Schadendorf’s jaw-dropping effort:

Zimbabwe won the match thanks to all-rounder Milton Shumba’s bowling figures of 10-0-23-4 and his handy half-century, which laid the foundation for the African nation’s victory. Apart from the left-arm spinner, Wesley Madhevere and Priviledge Chesa also picked three and two wickets respectively.
