After a week full of drama and developments here we enter in the sixth racing week of the ongoing Formula 1 season. With sheer domination from Max Verstappen in Shanghai, the caravan has reached to Miami for the next round of the automotive battle.

This will be the second sprint week of the season with the first being in Shanghai. Verstappen clinched both Sprint and Grand Prix races in Chinese GP further improving his lead into the driver’s leaderboard.

Meanwhile, some other teams are set to receive massive upgrades in their cars to challenge Red Bull’s dominance. So, without waiting the time let’s delve into the top 5 storylines that will shape the Miami Grand Prix.

5. Hulkenberg's Departure Leaves Haas Reeling

Oliver Bearman

The star of Haas Racing Nicko Hulkenberg has decided to move out of the team for the next season. His decision has left a void in the squad as he was performing up to the expectations of the team. He was one of the drivers who were likely to receive a good package for an extension of the contract. However, after his departure, Haas will have to launch a quest to find a good replacement.

Ferrari's reserve driver Oliver Bearman seems like a perfect choice for Haas especially with the FP1 opportunities he's had this year. He already made two appearances last season and left a good impression on the team. His exceptional performance as a substitute for Carlos Sainz in Saudi Arabia only boosted his chances further.

However, Haas has also seen the benefits of having experienced drivers like Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen in the past two seasons. Their valuable feedback has contributed to the team's improvement in race pace this year. So, it will be a key question will the team go with a rookie or not?

4. Driver Market Drama Intensifies

Zhou Guanyu

As Nicko Hulkenberg left the Haas to join Sauber (Audi from 2026) for a long-term deal it will have some implications on the squad. Kick Sauber currently operates Zhou Guanyu and Valtteri Bottas and Hulkenberg’s inclusion means one of them will be replaced.

As both have been decent on track and there is the prospect of Carlos Sainz joining Audi too, they both might be in search of a contract. Their intense search for a seat will surely trouble the driver’s market as Audi aka Sauber is looking for quick decisions. With all these dramas both will be keen to improve their performance in Miami to improve their case.

3. Mercedes Targets W15 Performance Boost

Mercedes W15

McLaren had a standout weekend at the Chinese Grand Prix, with Lando Norris topping Sprint Qualifying and securing a strong second place in Sunday's race for his second podium of the season. Despite anticipating a significant upgrade package early in the year, McLaren's performance in China exceeded expectations.

The awaited update is scheduled for the upcoming Miami Grand Prix, potentially enhancing their competitiveness, akin to their impressive leap in Austria last season. Meanwhile, Mercedes aims to address performance issues with new developments for their W15.

Both teams' willingness to introduce updates during Sprint weekends highlights their potential impact, with limited FP1 running for analysis. Alpine followed suit in China, introducing upgrades earlier than planned, with Esteban Ocon testing them and Pierre Gasly set to follow suit in Miami.

2. High Demand for Newey's Expertise

Adrian Newey

After a lot of discussions and internal conflicts Red Bull Racing’s Chief Technology Officer Adrian Newey is set to part ways with the team. After being involved in the development of new-age cars like RB19 and RB20 Newey has gained a lot of popularity and demand among various teams.

His presence in the market will surely put teams under pressure to take him home. Ferrari and Mercedes are among the top contenders. However, if this were to happen, it would mark a significant shift, considering the remarkable success Red Bull and Newey have shared since he arrived at the team in 2006.

Together, they've secured seven drivers' championships, and six constructors' titles, and amassed 117 victories, all with Newey playing a pivotal role in the technical team.

1. Are Teams Ready for A Sprint Weekend in Miami?

Miami race track

After experiencing the debut Sprint weekend in China, we're gearing up for another one in Miami. This marks the inaugural occasion where the Hard Rock Stadium circuit will host this thrilling two-race event.

As witnessed last season, navigating the Miami International Autodrome is no easy feat, with potential incidents in both qualifying and the race that can dramatically shake up the standings. With only one practice session available, teams must swiftly dial in their setups to tackle the challenges ahead.

Meanwhile, Max Verstappen will be keen to continue his domination at the Miami circuit. Last season he won the race despite starting from the ninth position. He will be looking to continue his double weekend in Miami just like Shanghai.
